PREGNANCY MASSAGE

Pregnancy massage can be of enormous benefit to both the mother and the unborn baby. It helps to support a woman during a time when her body is going through many emotional and physiological changes and can help her prepare her body for the birth.

Pregnancy is a wonderful time for a woman but pressure being put on joints, ligaments and organs, often cause discomfort and pain.

Massage has tremendous benefits and can help alleviate aches and pains and other common health problems associated with pregnancy. Preparing for a new baby is both very exciting and often stressful, Massage can help to reduce stress levels due to its calming effect.

The baby too can benefit from the massage as “feel good'“ endorphins are released by the mother during the massage are passed onto the baby. Quite often, the therapist will feel the baby kick and move as it too responds to the massage treatment.

Please note that massage can only take place after 3 months gestation (first trimester). Essential oils are not generally used on pregnant women (with the exception of Mandarin) unless specifically advised by the midwife/doctor treating the woman.

There are lots of benefits to baby massage including:

Being a great way of affirming your bond with your baby.

Helping you become more confident in handling your child and better at recognising their needs.

Research has shown that baby massage can help a mother have a positive interaction with her baby.

It can be a great way for partners, grandparents and siblings to bond with the newest addition to the family.

Great way to introduce music and singing.

Regularly massaging your baby may help them to sleep and settle better too. Your baby's muscles relax, and breathing becomes deeper as massage raises levels of the 'feel-good' hormone oxytocin in both you and your baby. This helps you both feel calmer and relaxed. (This can also help with breastfeeding).
